TikTok Shop UGC Requirements 2026

Studioverse··5 min read

TikTok Shop rejects a meaningful share of submitted video for reasons that have nothing to do with creative quality: wrong aspect ratio, a missing disclosure tag, a watermark from another platform still burned into the frame. This is the compliance and format reference for TikTok Shop-eligible UGC in 2026: the exact specs, the disclosure rules for affiliate content, and the rejection reasons that show up most in seller support threads.

Format requirements TikTok Shop actually enforces

Disclosure rules for affiliate and sponsored content

TikTok Shop affiliate content is commercial speech, and both the TikTok commerce policy and FTC guidance treat it that way. The rules that actually get enforced:

  • Paid Partnership label required. Any video where the creator earns commission through the affiliate program must carry the native Paid Partnership toggle from TikTok. Turning it on is a one-tap setting in the app, not a caption hashtag.
  • #ad or #sponsored in the caption is not a substitute. It is good practice for FTC compliance but does not replace the in-app disclosure toggle for shop-affiliated content.
  • Brand-owned posts do not need the affiliate disclosure (there is no third-party commission to disclose), but still fall under general advertising-claims rules if the video makes a health, safety, or performance claim.
  • Undisclosed affiliate content is a policy strike, not just a compliance risk: repeated violations can suspend a creator Shop affiliate access, which is why brands vetting affiliate creators should check disclosure history before enrolling them.

Category-specific content restrictions

A handful of categories carry extra UGC restrictions beyond the base format spec, and this is where most rejected content actually comes from:

  • Supplements and beauty. No before-and-after framing that implies a medical outcome without a substantiation basis; no cure, treat, or guaranteed-results language in either the video or the on-screen text.
  • Electronics. Safety and certification claims (UL, FCC) shown in video must match the actual listing certification on file, not a generic stock claim.
  • Apparel and accessories. Sizing claims need to match the listed size chart; a video showing a garment fitting differently than the chart states is a common rejection reason.

Full category eligibility (what can be listed on Shop at all, not just what the video can claim) is covered in our product categories and policy guide.

What this means for AI-generated UGC

AI-generated shop video has to hit the same format and disclosure bar as creator-shot video, no exceptions:

  1. Export natively at 1080x1920, 9:16. Do not upscale a square or 16:9 source.
  2. Keep the product in frame inside the first half of the runtime, the same rule that applies to affiliate creator video.
  3. If the video is used inside the affiliate program (an AI-generated variant handed to a real affiliate creator to post), that creator still owns the Paid Partnership disclosure on their post; the generation pipeline used by the brand does not remove that obligation.
  4. Route category-restricted claims language (supplements, beauty, electronics) through the same review a human-shot script would get before it ships. AI-generated does not mean policy-exempt.

Bottom line

Most TikTok Shop content rejections trace back to format and disclosure, not creative quality: wrong aspect ratio, a missing Paid Partnership toggle, or a claim the category does not allow. Get those three right and the format bar for shop video is genuinely low. Our TikTok Shop creator content playbook covers the four content types that convert once the format is correct, and our ecommerce workflow generates shop-ready 9:16 variants at the specs above by default.
